Concrete Segmental Bridges - Theory, Design, and Construction to AASHTO LRFD Specifications (Paperback): Dongzhou Huang, Bo Hu Concrete Segmental Bridges - Theory, Design, and Construction to AASHTO LRFD Specifications (Paperback)
Dongzhou Huang, Bo Hu
R1,520 Discovery Miles 15 200 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

Segmental concrete bridges have become one of the main options for major transportation projects world-wide. They offer expedited construction with minimal traffic disruption, lower life cycle costs, appealing aesthetics and adaptability to a curved roadway alignment. The literature is focused on construction, so this fills the need for a design-oriented book for less experienced bridge engineers and for senior university students. It presents comprehensive theory, design and key construction methods, with a simple design example based on the AASHTO LRFD Design Specifications for each of the main bridge types. It outlines design techniques and relationships between analytical methods, specifications, theory, design, construction and practice. It combines mathematics and engineering mechanics with the authors' design and teaching experience.

Manual for Teaching and Learning Chinese as a Foreign Language (Paperback): Bo Hu Manual for Teaching and Learning Chinese as a Foreign Language (Paperback)
Bo Hu
R1,131 Discovery Miles 11 310 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

Written in an extended dictionary format, the Manual for Teaching and Learning Chinese as a Foreign Language aims to cover all key terms related to teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Each section contains an introduction with language-specific information, and identifies students and teachers' common questions, including the capacity of Chinese as a morphologically unmarked language to indicate categories such as tense and mood. Many entries listed in this manual come with an explanation, a commentary, and rich examples. The Manual for Teaching and Learning Chinese as a Foreign Language appeals to both Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) teachers and students, as well as being the ideal reference for researchers conducting comparative studies of the Chinese and English languages.

Bo Hu
R1,557 Discovery Miles 15 570 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book investigates the implementation of the education policy for migrant children, arguing that it has been selectively implemented: while some policy themes have been effectively implemented, others have not. Four factors underlie this selective implementation: specificity of policy goals, funding for education, local incentives in an exam-oriented education system, and intergroup relationships between migrant and urban children.

Shanzhi Chen, Fei Qin, Bo Hu, Xi Li, Zhonglin Chen, …
R1,786 Discovery Miles 17 860 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This is the first book to introduce UUDN for 5G, including the concept, challenges, architecture and key technologies. The new network architecture based on "de-cellular" and "user-centric" is proposed with three kinds of decoupling: user plane and control plane decoupling from radio access, control and transmission decoupling from network, local service and network service decoupling. Key characteristics of UUDN are provided, including four aspects: Intelligent network knows user, Moving network follows user, Dynamic network serves user, and Secured network protects user. Four promising technology directions are discussed in detail, including dynamic APs grouping (DAPGing) method, intelligent networking, advanced interference management and user-centric security. The authors also include a UUDN solution, illustrated with numerology and evaluation results as a practical example. Finally, further research directions of UUDN are analyzed. This book gives an overall introduction of UUDN for people who are interested and just begin their study, as well as some suggestions on further research for experts involved in academic, industrial and standardization activities on relative fields.

Bo Hu, Karl Morasch, Stefan Pickl, Markus Siegle
R5,881 Discovery Miles 58 810 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book contains selected papers from the symposium "Operations Research 2010" which was held from September 1-3, 2010 at the "Universit t der Bundeswehr M nchen," Germany. The international conference, which also serves as the annual meeting of the German Operations Research Society (GOR), attracted more than 600 participants from more than thirty countries. The general theme "Mastering Complexity" focusses on a natural component of the globalization process. Financial markets, traffic systems, network topologies and, last but not least, energy resource management, all contain complex behaviour and economic interdependencies which necessitate a scientific solution. Operations Research is one of the key instruments to model, simulate and analyze such systems. In the process of developing optimal solutions, suitable heuristics and efficient procedures are some of the challenges which are discussed in this volume.

Destination Involvement and Travelers' Revisit Intentions (Paperback): Bo Hu Destination Involvement and Travelers' Revisit Intentions (Paperback)
Bo Hu
R1,551 Discovery Miles 15 510 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Repeat travel demonstrates great potentials in terms of its size and economic contribution. However, the repeat travel market has been understudied. Theoretically, this study was built upon the theories of consumer decision processes and the purchase-consumption feedback loop model. It was found that travelers' decision processes do not cease once the trip in a destination is completed, instead their experiences with the destination will have an impact on their decisions on future visitation and the post-evaluation of the destination mediates between their present visit experiences and their revisits intentions. The structure of destination involvement was applied to explain the complicated process of travel experience as a relationship between a traveler and a destination. The causal relationship of destination involvement and repeat visit intentions was assessed via the mediation of satisfaction in the context of long-haul pleasure travel. The results of this study should be of interest to researchers engaging in involvement studies and investigation of travelers' decision processes and to practitioners who want to know more about the repeat travel market.

The research of modeling and simulation has made great progress during the past few decades. A number of institutions and scholars from various domains have proposed different modeling theories and simulation technologies. Great variety and diversity tools and commercial software, which are mainly oriented to specific single-discipline, are rushing out and being applied in their own fields successfully. Multi-discipline virtual prototype has been applied in a wide range of engineering applications, especially the design, testing and evaluation of complex product. The growing complexity of the product and simulation system, as well as the user requirement, bring many challenges to modeling and simulation. This book examines the major theories and methods involved in modeling, simulation, optimization, evaluation and application of multi-discipline virtual prototype, based on component oriented thinking.
